ARA Mini-Documentary to Debut: BANNISTER BREAKS THE BARRIER On May 6, 1954, Roger Bannister met an athletics mark that many at the time thought was unthinkable; he broke the four-minute mile barrier.
The American Running Association (ARA), with assistance from several individuals from Nike, has completed a short documentary on Bannister's achievement. ARA’s Dave Watt and Geoff Hollister, a retired Nike pioneer and ARA Board Member, ventured to the site of the historic sub-four minute mile to film an interview with Sir Roger Bannister. His personal comments offer a unique perspective on what it was like to break the seemingly impenetrable barrier. Original BBC footage from the race is also included.
ARA will market the DVD to high school and college track teams, running clubs, and any individuals who aspire to be better athletes. Sales will assist ARA’s efforts to provide more programs and events for individuals who want to start running, or return to the sport of running or track and field. (The DVD is approx. 23 minutes in length and costs $19, plus $6 S&H.) Contact Dave Watt for ordering information.
