September
may be back-to-school for our kids, but
it's back from camp for most ACA members.
By this time, many of you are taking a
well-deserved break after the summer.
Although there are countless things to
do in the fall, from evaluating summer
camp to preparing for school-year programs,
this is a great time to think about involvement
with the camp community through service
as an ACA volunteer. Here are some
possibilities:
- Become a standards visitor. What
a wonderful way to become more educated
about best practices in our profession
and to visit our colleagues in their
camps.
- Volunteer to serve on a committee,
task force, or your section board. ACA's
success is built on commitment by our
members, and there are opportunities
in every section to make an impact.
- Write an article for your section newsletter
or for a local publication. Take
this opportunity to share your stories
with others, whether in the profession
or in your community.
- Develop a presentation on one of your
favorite topics for a section or national
conference. We learn from each
other, and we need colleagues who will
share their ideas, challenges, and successes.
Becoming involved in the American Camp
Association is easy, it's rewarding,
and it's the best way I know to enhance
your personal development in this profession.
Every member has something to offer. Volunteering
to give your time and talents to the camp
community will pay big dividends, as you
will learn and grow as a camp professional.
Go ahead……contact your section
president or executive and discuss how
you can volunteer. You'll
be glad you did! Check out the Volunteer
area of the ACA Web site for more information.
