Camp Enrollment Results for Summer 2006
Wondering how enrollments were for summer 2006? Results are in for Enrollment Survey 2006, here some of the major findings:

  • Camps in general seemed to experience a boost in enrollments in 2006 with fewer camps indicating decreased enrollments in general by age and by gender. Almost half the camps put summer 2006 as one of their best for the past five years.
  • Regional differences around enrollment virtually disappeared in 2006.
  • The concern over major enrollment differences between day and resident camps were not evident in these data.
  • Enrollment decreases are still a concern for religiously-affiliated camps.
  • Enrollments of ethnic/minority campers did not experience any real growth in any segment of the camp community.
  • While most camps are generating dollars to help get children to camp who otherwise may not attend, these sponsorships seem to have plateaued at fairly minimal levels.

Watch for an article covering the enrollment information and comparisons to the data gathered last year in the March/April 2007 issue of Camping Magazine. During the ACA National Conference in Austin, a special session is being offered with a primary focus on enrollment issues for religiously-affiliated camps.

ACA Camp Salary and Compensation Report 2007 Now Available Online

The American Camp Association (ACA) continues its signature research efforts into the business of camp operations. This Camp Salary Information was gathered in the fall of 2006 in a survey of 1,797 camp owners and operators who were a stratified, representative sample of almost 2,700 camps affiliated with ACA. A 52 percent response rate helps the reader understand:

  • Current salaries of full-time and seasonal camp employees as stratified by
    • Day and resident operations
    • Camps sponsored by agencies, religious organizations, independent nonprofits, and independent for-profits
    • Camps from all regions of the USA
  • Benefits provided to year-round and seasonal staff and their cash value
  • Director salaries segmented by tenure in position, education, age, and gender
  • Expected salary increases for 2007

This is the largest study of its kind providing current information to camp owners and operators about salaries—that area of the budget that, on average, consumes 54 percent of a day camp's budget and 40 percent of a resident camp's budget.

Summary reports and data are available free to members.
