Fall is a wonderful time for reflection.
After a busy summer season, filled with
campers, additional staff, and extremely
busy days, most of us value a little down
time in the early fall before gearing up
for the next season. In between tabulating
your summer season evaluations, packing
away equipment, and taking a few days off,
consider adding these items to your list
of things to ponder:
ACA's new standards—think
about the effect on your operations, when
you and your staff can get trained, and
any changes that need to be made before
next summer. Find out when your section
will be training visitors, and if you aren't
already a visitor, consider becoming one.
There is no better way to learn about other
camp programs than by participating as
an ACA standards visitor. Not only will
you learn more about the standards program,
you can see other camps in operation and
learn best practices from your colleagues.
The Protect Act Pilot Program—this
is a tremendous opportunity for ACA camps
and is explained in this issue of Inside
ACA. Consider the implications for your
own camp and how you may benefit.
ACA's Board Development/Nominating
Process—a call for nominations will
soon be issued, and you can have input
on who will be the nominees for ACA's
Board of Directors and officers. Your input
is crucial. Please take a few minutes to
consider nominating one or more of your
colleagues for these positions, both at
the section and national levels.
Finally, it's not too early to dust
off your hat and polish your boots, because
the 2007 ACA National Conference is just
a few months away in Austin, Texas! Mark
your calendars for February 13 – 16,
and plan on attending ACA's premier
educational event.
I hope you have had a wonderful summer and
can enjoy a few moments of reflection in
the near future! |
