Outdoor Advertising Association of America, Inc. (OAAA)
National Public Service Partner

ACA's Because of Camp…™ public service announcement has seen tremendous success – over 27,500 views on YouTube, 30,000 hits to ACA's Because of Camp…™ landing pages on ACA's Web site and CampParents.org, almost 1,500 “fans” on Facebook, and several requests for the print version of the PSA – including one from USA Today Magazine.

This week, ACA is pleased to announce that our application for National Public Service Partner status with the Outdoor Advertising Association of America, Inc. (OAAA) has been approved. The outdoor advertising industry regularly provides free advertising space for charitable causes, a practice dating back to the early 1900's. The industry, as a whole, donates millions each year to national nonprofit groups that can't afford paid advertising.

As a partner, ACA would be responsible for a minimum cost – only printing and shipping. All other fees are donated. ACA national has developed a creative concept (PDF - 8MB) that closely mirrors the Because of Camp…™ PSA, while maintaining a “camp” component. In addition to billboards, ACA will be purchasing poster advertising and bus shelter advertising.

To comply with these guidelines, ACA national office will facilitate all requests, and offer them to section offices as they become available. Sections may fund as many opportunities as they wish, and may choose the locations of these opportunities. Costs typically are $350 for a billboard, $45 for a poster, and $20 for each bus shelter advertisement. ACA is asking for a minimum commitment of $1,000 for participating sections. Sections may also choose NOT to participate.

The billboards, posters, and shelter advertising will be made available to OAAA members beginning January 1, 2010 through their Web site, weekly newsletters, and individual e-letters. We also have the opportunity to write all OAAA members and introduce ourselves and ask that they consider our organization for their public service work

We have been told by OAAA that their members will place as many billboards, posters, and transit shelter advertising as we can fund…another public service partner has been able to place over 600 billboards nationwide. Additionally, if a vendor wants our creative for a digital billboard in their geographic area, there is no cost to us.

The other exciting news is that OAAA has offered to a orchestrate a launch event in Denver at our National Conference for attendees and the media…to include the unveiling of a major billboard in Denver. We will work with our PSA celebrity talent to insure some are there for the launch.

This is an amazing opportunity for ACA, and for the camp community as a whole.  For years, I have heard members express the desire to make a large public awareness impact. I hope that you will join in my enthusiasm as we make a significant inroad in that direction

Please let me know if we can count on your section's participation, and at what level you feel your section would like to participate. We are happy to discuss this marketing opportunity with you and answer any specific questions you may have.  You may contact Harriet Lowe for additional information.  765-349-3303

Best to all of you,
Peg Smith
